Composite (Tooth-Colored) Fillings in Katy, TX

Composite Fillings Near You

Teeth develop cavities when they aren’t properly cleaned and plaque and food debris are left to remain on the tooth surfaces. Bacteria that live in the plaque are then allowed to attack the enamel and cause decay in the tooth. Cavities, unfortunately, are a common dental issue. The good news is that they are fairly easy to treat, with dental fillings. At OneBrilliant Dental, we utilize composite fillings, which offer the benefit of blending in with the natural tooth.

Cavities are usually found during routine check-ups. It may take an x-ray to detect them, or to see the extent of the decay. To place a filling, the tooth will first be anesthetized. The dentist will remove all traces of decay and clean the tooth. It is then etched, or roughened, with a mildly acidic solution. This allows the composite material to better adhere to the tooth surface. Once the tooth has been prepared, a translucent cement will be applied to bond the filling material to it. Excess material will be removed from the tooth and the dentist will mold the filling to the desired shape so that the bite of the teeth is retained. The filling will be polished to complete the treatment.

Following the procedure, proper hygiene will have to be maintained in order to prevent the need for future fillings. This includes daily brushing and flossing, along with regular visits to the dentist.
